Hengqin is a 106.46-square-kilometer coastal island tucked into the southern corner of the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong province. It is the largest among the 146 islands of Zhuhai.

Hengqin is located on the west side of the Pearl River Estuary and close to Hong Kong and Macao. Facing the South China Sea to the south, it is 34 sea miles to Hong Kong and 4 sea miles away from Daxi Watercourse, an international navigation line; it is connected to Macao by a bridge, with the shortest distance of less than 200 meters to Macao.
